Leicester Care Packs and why we do them
We wanted to give some support to the hospital that cared for Chelsea throughout her battle with cancer for 2 years. The hospital is Leicester Royal Infirmary, Ward 27 and also support more local families too.
Through Chelsea’s mums own experience we wanted to help in those first few hours/days of being admitted to the ward for the first time. It can be very daunting, confusing and also scarey time for the family. Also often families are sent direct to the ward with very little if any time to pack essentials whilst panicking.
So we decided to put some care packs together which are called ‘Chelsea’s Angels Remembered Essentials’
These care packs provide items that are often forgotten but needed, and this can save families money as hospital shops are very expensive, £3 for a tube of toothpaste? So mini toiletries, some snacks and treats, wordsearches, pen, note pad, travel wash in case of lack of change of clothes. Also lots of distraction for the children, craft items, activity pads, colouring pens etc, a small teddy for comfort, etc. These packs also give the families a small amount of item to be concentrating on something else, looking through them and not frantically worrying about what might be. It might only be a very small amount of time but from experience we know this would be of a huge help.
